Amazon.com Product Description The Sony FDL-22 portable Watchman color TV is a must for sports fans, daytime TV junkies, or anyone who hates missing favorite programs while away from home. The entry-level device is simple to use: merely tune to a VHF (2 to 13) or UHF (14 to 69) channel, adjust the wrap-around neck strap (which doubles as an antenna), and enjoy the program on the Watchman's 2.2-inch LCD screen. The device runs for approximately 3-1/2 hours on four AA batteries, but also connects to a separately sold AC adapter for longer use. People who don't want to broadcast the volume to everyone will appreciate the mini headphone jack, along with adjustable volume and brightness dials. The Watchman measures a mere 3.25 x 6.12 x 1.75 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 7.4 ounces (excluding batteries), making it an ideal size for handheld use. The neck strap antenna measures 51.25 inches long. What's in the Box Watchman portable TV, neck strap antenna, user's manual.

| Customer Reviews: Not Sony's Greatest Product April 13, 2006 Wayne Lee (Queens, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Beggars can't be choosers...got this for free over 10 years ago. The screen is too bright, and there is no contrast dial to rectify that. Adjusting the brightness dial does little to improve the image quality, and adjust it too much only changes the screen to appear like the negative of a film strip. I would like to stand it upright at times, but its design makes that a challenge. It does feel comfortable when held in my right hand, the speaker has good clarity, and it still works like new, but I wish I could replace the picture quality. The contrast, or the lack of it, makes this only a 3 stars in my opinion.
Clunky but useful June 11, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was given to me by my ex-wife when she made a trip to Tokyo many years ago. The fact that it still works flawlessly is a testament to its durability. It's a no-frills unit, heavy on your neck, but it works as advertised. The tuner is surprisingly robust and sensitive, managing to catch stations a tabletop TV would have trouble with. The screen, while passive matrix, is bright and sharp enough. The plastic screen doesn't scratch easily. The shape when held in the hand feels like a big, hefty gray-black ice cream cone. The sound is loud enough for its size, often so loud it distorts at the 75% level. The addition of the headphone jack is welcome. I wish they thought of a place to keep an optional earphone thing on the unit itself, like a small compartment or a place where you can wrap the cord around. Coulda been smaller, lighter, but for its time, it was the best they could come up with. Great for keeping in the glove compartment. The neck strap/antenna is a great idea, and makes this unit easy to port around.
